Let’s start 2010 by having some fun with our favorite sport ever: music production? We’ll all have some fun indeed, but you can get even more: in addition of our own Ohm Force bundles, thanks to our generous friends from Muse Research & Development, Camel Audio, Novation, Future Publishing, Sample Magic and KVR Audio – the world’s biggest audio plug-in news resource and forum – this remix cohmpetition will maybe be the one with the coolest prize set you’ve seen out there. The track to be remixed is Stride, the new release from talented american progressive house producer/DJ Derek Howell (check out his MySpace profile or take a look at his discography at Discogs).
What you have to do is pretty simple: listen to the track (below), download the sample pack, use Ohm Force’s Frohmage filter and/or Symptohm:Melohman Performer Edition synth (both are free!) when producing your remix and… show your talent to the world! (please read the additional rules before starting your remix). The submissions should be sent until February 28th 2010, the 3 winners will be chosen by the Ohm Force and Derek himself and the final result will be announced at the beginning of March. If this is basically a popularity contest, then why are we being asked
to make any music at all? It seems a bit unfair to leave the judging in
the hands of anyone but the original author of the track and the
sponsors. Perhaps I missed something in the translation! I hope I did. Otherwise, this co’h'mpetition’ is the child of that fiasco known to beast and man alike as the Eurovision ‘Song’ contest! Tell me it ain’t so!!!!!

Hi CBall, you can actually use/do whatever you want when making your remix, as we’ll just embed a SoundCloud player here: you’ll be always the full owner and responsible for what you’ve uploaded. If you use a 30 seconds Beatles sample, that’s on your door that Robocop will knock. (does Robocop actually *knock* a door?) Anyway, you better respect Soundcloud’s terms of use and I could also tell you that you’ll have more chances to win if – in addition of being inspired by the sample pack and the original track itself – you open up the piano roll and do your own tricks.

Just wondering, can i use the DAW’s FX’s? (Such as EQ, Compressor, Reverb etc)
Considering they are giving you a filter free and not a reverb I’d certainly say you can.
i am very interested in this compo because 1) i love compos but usually dont officially enter my track or am way past the cutoff date. but with a prize of all plugins from one of my fave vst companies (been using ohmboyz and others for >10 yrs) as well as other awesome prizes (<3 camel audio as well) i am motivated to actually enter a track into this one =] does it have to be house? i have been on a dubstep trip for the last year or two and it would at least fit the bpm =] does there have to be anything recognizable from the track or can i mangle the hell out of the samples? i would like to put at least 1-2 recognizable samples in it just to be tasteful =] thanks for putting this compo on!!

The audio track of your remix is yours and you can do whatever you want with it. Within the boundaries of the law, of course (ie. don’t use it to kill).

Frohmage (win xp, sp2, vst) crashes my nuendo as soon as i change the presets. since i installed it i experiencend several blue screens. graphics go crazy- i never saw my nuendo without colours before…
i like ohmforce but that sucks…
and as i remember i was experiencing probs with fromage before( years ago). i always tried but i always gave up because it was causing probs- not only on one specific comp.
for my remix i have to pretend to use fromage…?!

Self-promotion is allowed: you can contact your family, your neighbors, your co-workers and so on, to come take a listen to your track and then vote to you. If it happens that some (or a lot) of these people just go to the vote page without even listening – they’re lazy but they love you – a difference between votes and plays will be noticeable. Anyway, just in case, we’re using the maximum protection level of the WordPress/Polldaddy poll widget we’re using: it’s blocking repeated votes by cookie and by IP at the same time.
If it works like that then public’s choice will be a prize for a person who is the most sociable.

Upload your remix to your SoundCloud profile, and remember to (at the “Privacy Settings”) put it on “public” mode.
Then send us an e-mail with the URL for the track, and you can also attach (in this e-mail) the image you’re talking about.
