This documentation is aimed at giving you a quick starting guide of your Ohmboyz Infinity multi tap delay. If you have questions, use comments in the section below to ask. Fully fledged out (with, as ever, your input) documentation will of course be included on release.
This documentation assumes you’re familiar with plugins, delays, etc.
This is a special plugin (aka TL;DR)
As with any plugin you’ll want to start browsing the patches. But Ohmboyz ∞ patches are more than what you’re used to. When you load one, start playing with the 4 gigantic knobs below. You haven’t heard a patch if you haven’t played those.
If you’re using Maschine, you’ll notice the Macros are all affected to you knobs 5 to 8, for instant access.
WTF is ∞
Ohmboyz Infinity (or ∞) is a multi tap, but also multi FX delay. If you use the delays provided in your DAW, the basics are the same but the amount of options and post processing is another planet. If you already own a 3rd party specialized delay unit, Ohmboyz ∞ distinctive traits are:
Multi Tap: very common in the guitar world, less so on computers. Taps are distinct repetitions of the original sound before actually going through the echo process. Typical use is to create musical reverb that are pleasant to the hear rather than striving for realism. In Ohmboyz ∞ they also combine with modulation and macros to create chorus, flangers and crazy repeater / beat slicer / sample mangling FX
Multi FX: you’ll find EQs at many stages of the process as well as filters, distortions, frequency shifters, pitch shifters, frequency shifters and reverbs. Some of those run through the delay lines which means that they constantly reapply on themselves, creating all sort of audio landscapes.
Advanced Modulation: our modulation system has been revamped to something borderline scary. You’ll discover way more mode – including a step sequencer – with way more options, and each modulation parameters can in turn be modulated or assigned to macros. Ohmboyz ∞ is all about moving pans, pitches, filters, etc.
Macros²: Ohmboyz ∞’s macros² are the new cool kids. Each of those big, beautiful knobs will drive an unlimited of parameters with k…complete control over ranges and response curves. One Macro can for instance make delay line 2 fade in quickly, then rise its cutoff, with resonance starting to rise a bit later slowly at first then with an acceleration while feedback start to gently move down to compensate for the resonance and high cut filter kicking in to control brilliance. Up to you! You’ll quickly realize this is an essential tool for controlling multiples pans, modulation, period at once.
From great to amazing thanks to you
In its current form Ohmboyz ∞ is already one of the meanest delay around. This Early Access phase will allow all of us to make it go to the next level. To make this moon shot happens, we need your feedback. Positive to pump us up, negative to iron things out. We need to hear your voice on what shall be the next priority, hear of your ideas to implement them, learn of the bugs you encounter to fix them. A few guidelines:
- update. There will be red update button when we’ve cooked a new build for you.
- /discuss. Use that button to reach the thread with the patch notes and give your feedback/ideas
- when reporting, mention your system (Mac/PC), the version you’re using (AAX 64, VST 32, etc) your DAW and every context you can think off.
- there’s likely be some frustration at some points. It’s a bit like going to Mars, but more challenging of course.

The average Joe user doesn’t read manuals (we certainly don’t). Getting your feedback about what isn’t clear is a part of our devilish plan to know where we screwed up. Hey, we just told you about expecting frustrations.

What you create
There will be extra features, sound may improve, there will bugs but please, do use Ohmboyz ∞ for your regular projects right now. In our experience it’s already quite stable and there’s a lot to be done. More importantly, we organised the code to allow for older patch to work in newer builds.

Main changes from Ohmboyz
A lot of you are coming from Ohmboyz ∞’s ancestor which was an historic milestone for digital delays. You’ll find a familiar basis but also misleading dissemblances:
- at first glance a setback, the new modulation system isn’t “one modulation per parameter” anymore. There are 8 available but this number can change. We also plan on improving the UI to emulate the responsiveness of the old paradigm when it came to adding a quick modulation here and there. What you immediately gain though is the ability to modulate modulators, for instance to have LFO with variable periods.
- also modulation range is now scaled to the whole parameter range and isn’t relative to the actual parameter value.
- have we mentioned Macros² ? They’re awesome. They update the whole preset morphing feature giving you way more control and options.
- in BPM mode modulation are really synched to your timecode now. This means that the modulation will always play the same in your project. This is a complete game changer for all tempo synced patches.
- in ms mode, it’s not. MS value are now really tempo independent.
Tips & Tricks
- use short taps in ms with various panning to create early reflexions, then reverb in a not too long delay line to complete the creation of highly enjoyable, production ready atmosphere. the filters & EQs will give you a great deal of additional control
- double click on parameter values in the main edit to enter numerical value. You’ll do that a lot.
- Modulation allow you control the min and max result on the actual parameter as well as keeping controle of the synchronisation. A world of rythmical applications awaits !
- Use unipolar modulation on tempos to easily control the range.
- right click on parameters to see their assignations and/or remove them. Or on assignation faders to do the opposite.
- the noise generators, chaos modulations are the real deal. One filter can be a lot of different things depending on how you treat its cutoff.
- Very small modulations are great on many parameters, especially speed and pitch.
- Tape & analog emulation can be achieved essentially through the use of the speed parameter & modulation. Some High Cut EQing will make it sound warmer.
- Our UX philosophy is to give you parameters that do fun stuff and let accident happens (that’s how dynamite was invented, and everyone loves dynamite). That being said if you start to feel overwhelmed, try using to start from one simple idea, use as few parameters as possible, and cautiously iterate from there. Actually it sometimes help to prepare a patch with some notes on paper. That way you can also draw a little dragon in the margin.

Is there a way to have no dry signal entering the delays – and only have the taps feeding them – eg for a long initial delay followed by closely spaced repeats?
I may be missing something but it seems there is only a spread control at the moment. I can control it to some extent using Ducking but it’s going to be hard to do it cleanly,
Also, you probably know this but the pitch shifter can be quite clicky with a speed control that not’s 100%.
Otherwise, interesting stuff so far.
Dry in – This will be in the next update. We agree it’s needed. The current situation happened bc of some changes we made to make the use as a send easier, but we overlooked that unwanted consequence. Our pick is to have a dry in knob in both delay lines. We’ll announce soon our current plans for next upates on the “/discuss” page linked in the plugin UI.
We’re also considering adding an extra algorithm for pitch shifting. This kind of algorithm are generally trade offs that works well in some conditions but not others. Your feedback here is typically what we’re seeking in this Early Access. Such a dev can be pretty hefty so we need to balance it with other features request.
